Menassat’s Official Visit to the Moroccan Parliament


As part of its commitment to engaging with institutional and legislative environments, the Menassat Center for Research and Social Studies conducted an official visit to the parliamentary team of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. The visit took place at the Moroccan Parliament headquarters and was attended by several members of Menassat’s scientific team, accompanied by laureates from various editions of the JIL Program.

The visit featured a consultative session with the President of the USFP Parliamentary Group, Mr. Abderrahim Chahid, and USFP Member of Parliament, Mr. Hassan Lachgar. During this session, Menassat’s scientific team provided an overview of the center’s research studies, emphasizing key findings related to individual freedoms. Additionally, they presented preliminary results from an empirical study on 'Women, Public Space, and Individual Freedoms,' whose final report will be published soon.

The Menassat delegation included Mr. Aziz Mechouat, Director of the institution, Ms. Ikram Adnani, senior member, Ms. Fatima Zahra Akkif, Director of Projects, Ms. Fatima Ika, Project and Activity Coordinator, and Mr. Mohammed Abdelouahab Rafiqi, Advisor at Menassat. The meeting also welcomed JIL Program laureates Ayoub El Kissy, Latifa Gonbark, and Hamza Mirouad, who shared insights into their training and research experiences within the JIL Program.

This encounter provided an opportunity to discuss potential avenues for cooperation and collaboration on various pressing social issues, with the goal of developing strategic frameworks to bridge the gap between academic research and institutional actors.

In his remarks, Mr. Abderrahim Chahid, President of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, praised Menassat’s initiatives aimed at forging connections between political actors and academia. He also expressed the party’s willingness to engage with scientific proposals and research findings, emphasizing USFP’s openness to collaboration through joint programs and projects.

Similarly, Menassat Director Aziz Mechouat reiterated the center’s mission to conduct fundamental field research, providing a scientific foundation for constructive societal debates. He emphasized Menassat’s openness to collaborative opportunities to strengthen scientific research, aiming to contribute to informed decision-making by relying on field studies and data-driven insights that support sustainable development.
